In 1994 I along with six other gentlemen went on a men's ministry trip to Washington DC and were blown away with what we witnessed. We saw men of God on their faces calling out to God for change, change in their lives the way they were living, change in their families, change in their neighborhoods. God was really doing something. I didn't know nor did I understand at that point, I just knew I needed it! I had to be involved! After that, promise Keepers asked us to be point men and be more involved in ministry to men. I knew then this was a call on my life and things had to change, change how I lived, my thoughts, and my dreams. They say if you want to truly know about a man's life, ask their wives. I did and I saw the pain in the face of mine. I knew something had to change. As time went on I got involved and took many ministry trips, met many men of God and went through a change. This took time and I still made many mistakes in life but I knew if I had a chance I would have to make God the center of my life. Since then I made adjustments got more involved in changing the lives of men and looked to my Heavenly Father for all of my needs.
Chris was born in Rhode Island, had an early childhood in SC, grew up in East Greenwich, attended URI for his undergraduate degree, raised his two children in Warwick and returned back to his EG roots 10 years ago.
His Spiritual walk began as a child attending an Episcopal parochial school in which he remained active all the way through high school. He became a prodigal the day he stepped on the college campus. Along this wandering path, he met his wife Robin, (married now for 41 years) when he moved “down the line” and finally graduating with a BS degree in resource development. The couple gave vows of marriage and he stepped into Catholicism for 16 years. They were and still are blessed with two children, one of each. As his daughter and son navigated their way through a mostly secular upbringing, their drifting ways challenged Chris into recognizing that he needed much more than his own skills and life’s experiences to parent them to become productive adults. As his son became a teen, and was starting to mark his territory, the urgency to find guidance in a solid youth group became a challenge as the Catholic church offered no such path. Through a Holy Spirit driven path, both father and son stumbled upon a non-denominational church with a vibrant youth group of 150 junior and senior high boys and girls. Little did he understand that God was calling both to have a direct and personal relationship with Jesus. Chris accepted Jesus in February 2006. Additionally, at basically the same time, his daughter while studying abroad in Australia found Jesus at a Hillsong service. Since that amazing moment, he has tried, stumbled, fallen, been forgiven and fallen deeper in love with Jesus for almost 18 years. This ongoing relationship is being built on prayer, standing in the Gap with other Men of God, accountability, and continuous Bible study punctuated by an amazing wonderful Bible-based church. Thanks to Investments of time into youth group leadership, Men’s Ministry leadership, Men’s Fraternity courses, and other men of Jesus has blessed him foundationally. Add employment at such Christian-owned employers as Chik-fil-A, West Bay Christian Academy and the last 7 years with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and he has multiple believers encouraging his walk. He currently is employed as a contractor in the BGEA church ministry working with pastors and churches helping to spread the message of Our Gospel in many void areas of spiritual need such as: Rhode Island, Washington DC, St. Louis MO Youngstown OH, El Paso TX, Las Cruces NM and most recently Loveland, CO. Chris just recently celebrated the marriage of his son this past May is really excited at the upcoming blessing of he and his wife’s first grandchild in mid-August 2024. Reach out anytime to Chris for conversation and prayer. It is All For Jesus.
Darrell is one of the founding members of Rhode Island Men of Hope. In 1995 a group of men from varies churches began to pray together for the men of RI to go to a Promise Keepers conference in Washington, DC and that formed a task force to help train and connect the men in Rhode Island and other New England states.
As an Elder, he and his wife Cynthia continues to actively serve alongside the men and women ministries of Christian Hill Community Church of West Warwick where they have been members for the last 30+ years.
They have three adult children. Both of them have been volunteers for Promise Keepers Men’s Conferences in the past, serving in the northeast region and beyond. Currently part of the Bible Study Fellowship International and Marked Men for Christ New England.
Darrell works for General Dynamics Electric Boat Corporation and is often called upon to officiate at special events like Veteran’s Day and the National Day of Prayer.
James was called to prison ministry and started mentoring adolescents in the RI Training School in the late 90’s with the help of Pastor Mike Kropman. He eventually started mentoring young Men at the ACI with the Christian-based program, Mentoring Concepts and Services.
As the Mentoring Concepts and Services program ended, God opened another door in the form of Rhode Island Men of Hope. James has been a member of the Rhode Island Men of Hope since 2012.
Outside of volunteering at the prison, James teaches at a school for children with Learning Differences. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rhode Island and holds a Masters in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University.
James has been married for 20 years and has two daughters.
James has a passion to see men do well and become the men God called them to be.
At my graduation from Springfield College the speaker (who had several doctorates) told us we can't know anything "for sure". I thought he was wrong. I was saved in 1977. I know he was wrong. Dead wrong!
I started facilitating 'Men's Fraternity ' at Medium Security in the ACI in October 2010, having been introduced to it by John Mentus.
I estimate I have had approximately 1,200 students during that time. During each class an invitation to receive Christ is given in lesson 7. I've always had at least one man respond in each class! Praise God!
Now ( post Covid ) the ACI only allows 15 men in each class and I only facilitate one class a week. I hope to continue presenting Rev Robert Lewis' Men's Fraternity' as long as God allows. I have met many men. I consider none of them to be worse than me.
Faith can provide a moral compass and guide people in making ethical decisions. Many religions have their own set of values and principles that help followers live a virtuous life.
For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. I John 3:20
It all started with many different men and John getting together to get other men to go to the Promise
Keeper's conference in Washington, DC in 1995. We would meet every two weeks on a
Thursday night and start with prayer.
We decided to start a Task Force and asked for additional training from Promise Keeper's
headquarters Denver, CO. I also serve as a coach for the National Coalition of Men's
Ministries. www.ncmm.org
We will go anywhere in New England to train men to be effective leaders in their churches.
The rest is history.
GOD BLESS,
BIG JOHN SERVING THE MASTER.
